Brisbane, finally

11 Apr

I finally got around to editing some of my holiday pics so this is word light picture heavy one.

I love when there is a combination of new and old and there is a lot of that in Brisbane.  The top picture is of the Anzac memorial. This building is bang on trend with all its minty pastel colours, no? These where all down the main city shopping street called Queens Street Mall.  Unfortunately it was hard to get pictures of the beautiful old buildings because they was a new cover thing which blocked the old buildings from site. This is the view of the City from the Botanical gardens which are between the city and the river. Pretty things in the Botanical Gardens.  I found it quite strange that these animals were in the middle of town really.  As much as people might think that wild animals wander around South African cities, they don’t, but it seems in Brisbane they do. We drove up to the Sunshine Coast for one night but unfortunately the weather didn’t really cooperate.  We went to a little town which had a market which was really lovely.  We also visited a Giant Pineapple which is apparently quite famous in Australia.  You can walk around inside and learn about pineapples.  Did you know it takes 2 years for a pineapple to grow!  I of course had some locally made pineapple ice-cream.   The Australians also seem to be quite fond of theme parks, although aside from the pineapple we didn’t visit any.

It’s the big pineapple!! My uncle used to bring us little souvenirs from there whenever he’d come over to NZ from Brisbane.

I love that you’ve noted about the old and the new together – that is one of my favourite things. I adore cities when they have the old and the new so seamlessly placed next to eachother. I find you have to look up for it, but then it’s all the more spectacular!
